Amankora Resorts

Amankora’s five distinct, luxury lodges are located in the country’s central and western regions. Each one offers the luxury and convenience of a well-appointed private residence with its own character, setting and experience. Deriving its name from two words, ‘Aman’ meaning ‘peace’ in Sanskrit and ‘kora’ meaning ‘circular pilgrimage’ in Dzongkha, (Bhutan’s language), Amankora Resorts combine contemporary design with traditional features, along with an indulgent spa and impeccable dining. Wood-panelled suites feature a combined lounge and bedroom furnished with king size bed, Bukhari (wood-burning stove) and a large terrazzo-cladbath. Suites are individually heated during the cooler winter months and air-conditioned in the summer months.

The Amankora lodge in Paro is nestled among glistening conifers in a 24-suite pine forest retreat. Amankora Thimphu, raised up in a blue-pine forest, sits close to the capital’s intriguing sights and shops. Amankora Punakha is set in sparkling verdancy just north of the resplendent Punakha Dzong. Amankora Gangtey, set in the remote wilderness of the Phobjikha valley, proffers magical views across the bird-strewn gorge and to the empowering Gangtey Goemba, a 16th century monastery. Amankora Bumthang rests adjacent to First and Second King’s palace, Wangdichholing amidst a valley sprinkled with an exotic mix of sloping pine forests, apple orchards, and restful fields of farm produce.

Uma Paro & Uma Punakha Resorts

Built by traditionally trained Bhutanese artisans, Uma Paro is infused with clean lined modernism whilst maintaining the feel of a Bhutanese village melding into the Blue Pine forest on the cliffs above. It is located amongst 38 acres of pristine forest overlooking Paro, and features 29 beautifully appointed rooms and suites, including 8 one-bedroom villas with private spa and courtyard. In-room facilities include high speed internet access (main building only), satellite TV, DVD players, an electronic personal safe, yoga mats and minibar.

Uma Punakha is an intimate, luxury lodge situated on a bend in the Mo Chu river, shrouded in the alpine stillness of the Punakha Valley. Uma Punakha offers guests nine hillside Valley View rooms, and two free-standing luxury private villas (one One-Bedroom Villa and one two-bedroom COMO Villa). Their Bukhari restaurant serves both local and international cuisine, while the standalone COMO Shambhala Retreat offers traditional holistic therapies.

Taj Tashi Thimphu

Located in the heart of Bhutan’s capital, Taj Tashi combines elements of Bhutan’s architectural traditions with modern luxury.

The 66 rooms and 9 suites are adorned with hand-painted murals of swirling clouds – a recurring motif in Bhutanese art – affording striking highlights of the region’s art and colour whilst also offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and township. Elegant, expansive and luxuriously appointed, the rooms pamper guests with the finest amenities, including large bathrooms featuring warmed floors and heated towel bars.

The 45-room Zhiwa Ling hotel combines the sensibilities of a fine Bhutanese guesthouse with the best of 21st Century technology. Envisioned and created by a local Bhutanese company, the hotel’s elaborate hand-carved wooden cornices and masterful stonework coexist beautifully with cutting-edge telecommunication systems and Swedish under-floor heating.

Set on 10 acres, Zhiwa Ling features a Spa ofeering a fitness centre, sauna, steam room and traditional Bhutanese outdoor hot-stone bath. Tenzinling Resort – Paro

Tenzinling is an intimate, family run resort. All the 21 rooms have been oriented to provide a full view of the Paro valley with a spectacular Paro Dzong. The resort is surrounded by a small village amidst apple orchards, and rice fields.


Dorji Elements – Thimphu

Dorji elements is a new hotel in Thimphu. This hotel has a total of 24 rooms, of which 7 are suites and 4 are deluxe rooms.

Dhensa Resort – Punakha

Dhensa Resort is a boutique property built by the handiwork of local Bhutanese artisans flanked by thick pine forests overlooking the Punakha River. All 24 suites have spacious interiors and private balconies that encapsulate the beauty of simplicity. It also offers a Spa with steam room and sauna.

Hotel Lobesa – Punakha

A relatively new hotel, Hotel Lobesa offers comfortable and spacious room, reminiscent of the unique charm of boutique hotels. Most rooms have balconies overlooking the lush and verdant fields and valleys of the region.

Punatshangchhu Cottages – Punakha

The hotel has a traditional Bhutanese architecture as its external structure and modern well appointed rooms and facilities inside. 22 hotel rooms, housed in two separate buildings are spacious, elegantly furnished and have attached toilets with modern fittings.

Gangtey Goenpa Lodge – Phobjikha Valley

Gangtey Goenpa Lodge features 12 spacious guest rooms with plush custom furnishings offering sweeping views of the valley below. Heated hand cut stone floors and deep bathtubs next to beautiful glass door and wood burning stoves (“bhukaris”) complete the sense of luxury and coziness.

Raven Crown Resort – Trongsa
