Festivals

The Tsechu is an annual traditional festival held in honour of Guru Rimpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. They take place all year round in temples, monasteries and Dzongs across the country. Colourful and well-choreographed masked dances are performed by monks and village men as local people gather in a spirit of celebration and deep faith. Each masked dance performed has a meaning or story behind it, and by witnessing these dances the audience receive blessings and have their sins washed away. The Tsechu also features traditional colourful Bhutanese dances and other entertainment.

Attending one of these festivals is a fantastic way to experience the ancient living culture of Bhutan. For more details, please contact our reservations team.
